Divorce
mediation is a constructive and dignified alternative to the adversarial
route to resolve disputes. Divorce mediation provides couples with the
opportunity to end their marriage amicably, with dignity, and on mutually
beneficial and respectful terms that they work out.
As compared
with the adversarial route, mediation can greatly reduce financial cost,
time, and unnecessary stress and aggravation. Mediation is
especially important when children are involved. It sets up a framework
for ongoing cooperation between parents, which is necessary for the children's
well-being. During mediation the parents are encouraged to separate their
spousal role, which is ending, from their parenting role, which is continuing.
The
mediator role is to provide the couple with a safe and non confrontational
environment to raise, discuss, and resolve many issues that affect their
own future and the future of their children.
